Garden Party at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery
Join us for a special summer edition of our monthly Thursday Lates, celebrating gardens, creativity and South Asian heritage at Pitzhanger.
Curated by Oitij-Jo Collective, Garden Party brings together hands-on workshops, a wild plant walk and tasting, food stalls, after-hours access to Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, and the chance to visit Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons.
This Thursday Late forms part of Pitzhanger’s growing commitment to South Asian-led programming, celebrating South Asian heritage, creativity and community through artist-led activity and shared cultural experiences.
For this special Thursday Late, all tickets are Pay-What-You-Can. Choose to pay £7, £5, £3, £1, or visit free of charge.
What’s included?
A General Admission ticket includes admission to Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, after-hours access to Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons, and access to two drop-in workshops:
- Spice Painting Workshop with Maryam Huq
- Floral Dyeing and Bunting Making with Rukia Begum
The Wild Plant Walk and Tasting has limited capacity and requires a separate timed ticket. This ticket also includes general admission and access to the drop-in workshops.
The Curator Tour of Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons has limited capacity and will be available to sign up for on the day.
Food stalls will also be available in the front garden throughout the event. These can be visited without a ticket.

- 3.30–7.30pm | Spice Painting Workshop
Discover the colours, textures, and aromas of everyday spices — such as turmeric, cinnamon, and paprika — in a painting workshop with illustrator Maryam Huq.
Using natural pigments, you are invited to experiment with mark-making while exploring the cultural significance of these familiar ingredients.
Drop-in, included with General Admission and Wild Plant Walk tickets - 3.30–7.30pm | Floral Dyeing and Bunting Making
Create colourful botanical bunting using naturally dyed fabrics in this drop-in workshop led by textile designer Rukia Begum. Inspired by flowers, plants, and traditional dyeing techniques, participants will explore colour, pattern, and print while creating their own contribution to a shared Garden Party atmosphere.
Drop-in, included with General Admission and Wild Plant Walk tickets. - 4–5.30pm and 6–7.30pm | From Garden to Table: A Wild Plant Walk and Tasting at Pitzhanger
A guided walk exploring the edible and useful plants growing naturally and intentionally throughout the gardens, followed by a seasonal cooking and tasting session, led by Usma Shah.

Join a member of the curatorial team for a guided tour of Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons.
Explore Woods’s artistic process, discover how the exhibition sits within her wider practice, and delve into its themes of the transience of life, our relationship with the natural environment, and the ways we experience and inhabit different spaces.

About the Artists and Partners
Oitij-Jo is dedicated to celebrating Bengali arts and crafts while fostering a sense of community, collaboration, and engagement. They focus on supporting underemployed women, particularly from the British Bangladeshi community, by providing valuable training and creative opportunities.
Maryam Huq is a Bangladeshi-British illustrator and multidisciplinary artist whose work celebrates heritage, identity, and belonging through vibrant visual storytelling. She merges diaspora themes with a nostalgic yet contemporary feel, crafting spaces for underrepresented voices with warmth and authenticity.
Rukia Begum is a British-Bangladeshi fashion and textile designer whose work blends bold surface design with cultural narrative. She specialises in print, pattern, and material exploration, creating pieces that reflect identity, heritage, and memory.
Usma Shah is an outdoor practitioner with many years of experience delivering forest school and bushcraft programmes. Having studied ethnobotany, she is passionate about exploring the relationship between people and plants, sharing their traditional uses, cultural stories and edible potential through engaging hands-on experiences.

- All tickets for this Thursday Late are Pay What You Can.
- General Admission includes access to Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons, and the two drop-in workshops.
- Drop-in workshop spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A one-in, one-out system may be used if capacity is reached.
- Wild Plant Walk and Tasting tickets are limited and must be booked in advance.
- Wild Plant Walk and Tasting tickets include general admission and access to the drop-in workshops.
- The Curator Tour is included with admission but must be signed up for on the day.
- Food stalls in the Front Garden are open to all and do not require a ticket. Food and drink are charged separately.
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Some activities may involve natural pigments, dyes or food tasting. Please speak to a member of staff on the day if you have allergies or access requirements.

Pitzhanger stays open until 8pm on the first Thursday of every month offering visitors an after-hours chance to view the exhibitions, and to join a wide range of events and activities. Please note that some talks and events may require additional tickets so do check the website for details ahead of your visit.
