Why Volunteer?

Are you passionate about South Asian culture, history, and community?

Do you want to play a meaningful role in sharing and preserving stories that matter?

Volunteering with South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) is a chance to give back, build community, and celebrate the rich diversity of South Asian heritage in the UK. As part of a national movement powered by the South Asian Heritage Trust, you’ll join a warm, welcoming network of volunteers committed to cultural pride, inclusion, and social impact. Whether you have an hour a week or can support an entire campaign, your contribution helps amplify voices and stories that deserve to be heard.

What You’ll Do

Volunteering isn’t just limited to one month—we run activities all year long.

Opportunities include:

  • Supporting live or online events and exhibitions
  • Contributing to digital content, archiving, and storytelling
  • Helping with administration, research, or campaign coordination
  • Assisting with school outreach, youth engagement, or oral history projects

Volunteers receive access to our WhatsApp group or mailing list, where we post new roles and opportunities. You’ll be able to pick tasks that suit your time, skills, and interests. Whether it’s a one-off event or a long-term project, we offer full support and guidance so you feel confident, valued, and connected.

The Benefits

Volunteering is a powerful way to grow, connect, and make a real impact:

  • Learn new skills in event planning, digital comms, heritage work, and community engagement
  • Meet like-minded people who share your values and cultural interests
  • Boost your confidence and gain valuable experience for personal or professional development
  • Celebrate your identity and contribute to a legacy that honours South Asian contributions to British life

We also offer certificates, references, and public recognition for dedicated volunteers. More importantly, you’ll be helping shape a more inclusive, aware, and connected society.

Let’s celebrate, connect, and inspire—together.
