As part of our new exhibition on Patterns! it was such a pleasure to host three recent workshops at the Culture Lab.
Engaging with phulkari, an important tradition of embroidery from the Punjab region, as a starting point, a group of local women came together to explore community, heritage, culture and memory.
Learning about phulkari stitches and patterns from artists Amarjeet Nandhra and working throughout with artist Suman Gujral on techniques of block print, embroidery and collage, the women made artworks about their identity, culture and heritage.
Their work alongside Suman Gujral’s prints, poems and embroidery pieces will be on display at the Culture Lab from May 28th
