Stories of Remembrance

The Royal British Legion is committed to shining a light on the extraordinary service of the men and women from South Asia and of South Asian descent. Millions have helped defend the UK and the freedoms we experience today through serving in, or alongside, Britain’s Armed Forces.

During the Second World War the Indian Army trained and deployed 2.5 million men and women from pre-partition India who served on land, sea and in the air. This was the largest volunteer army in history, and is but one example.

We honour the shared heritage through the inspirational stories of those who have served and sacrificed, the experiences of those who serve today, and some of the fascinating places where we can all remember their contribution.
