Friends Events

This year, a lot of different organisations have been in touch with us to let us know about internal events that they are having to mark South Asia Heritage Month 2022.

We have listed them below – if you work at any of the organisations, you should be able to sign up to join the event by contacting the coordinator you work with. Where contact details have been shared, we have included them; otherwise, please check your intranet or corporate emails for more details.

The humanities faculty at Titus Salt School in West Yorkshire are teaching classes focusing on South Asian Heritage on 18 July.

CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP are hosting an internal event called Being South Asian in Britain Today – CMS HSJ and EMBRACE Network’s #SouthAsianHeritageMonth Event. It is an invite only, internal event taking place on 9 August 2022.

For the second year in a row, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust will be marking the SAHM by doing a cricket match as Cricket is a religion in the South Asian countries and nothing binds them together other than cricket. This year’s match is on 27th July, from 17.30 to 21.00. You can sign up using the Eventbrite link shared iwithin the Trust.

Wickes PLC have a range of events planned for their colleagues from 18-29 July 2022. Events are both online and face to face to allow as many people as possible to participate. Events they have planned include: a new series of vlogs, posters and videos featuring information sbout all 8 South Asian Countries, Tik Tok videos show casing South Asian recipes and a South Asian play list for store radio. They will round off our events with a Live Talk & Q&A with an Asian celebrity at our head office in Watford.

On 10 August 2022, the Royal Air Force will be hosting an event on the unit to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month by showcasing the history, culture and food of Soutb Asia. They hope to invite members of the local South Asian Community onto the unit to enjoy the day.

The Manchester University Foundation NHS Trust BAME Staff Network will be hosting a Quiz Night on Friday the 5th of August 2022 on Teams. Colleagues can email to book.

In celebration of SAHM, Surrey Police will be hosting a colorful and fun evening for police officers and staff. We have gained licenses to screen the Bollywood hit movie Lagaan which tells a story of India under the rule of the British Empire. We will have talks from members of Surrey Minority Ethnic forum and will hear from the Surrey History Centre about South Asian history and its connection to Surrey. There will be delicious South Asian food, drinks and sweets. We will also be showcasing stories of South Asian officers and colleagues on our intranet and social media. This event is only open to Surrey Police members of staff.

Transport for London’s Raising Awareness of Culture & Ethnicity (RACE) staff network group is coordinating a number of events this summer to mark SAHM. These events are open to TfL staff as well as staff from the London Mayor’s Office and the Greater London Authority (GLA). Events include online beginner’s yoga classes, an exclusive Curator Tour on South Asian Migration at Royal Museums Greenwich, and a host of other online talks and events focused on South Asian histories and experiences.

CastleView Group in County Durham are celebrating South Asian Heritage Month on Friday 5th August in our head office by hosting a buffet and decorating the office with themed decorations.

OMD EMEA are hosting a celebratory lunch for people to discover, taste, listen to and learn about what South Asia has to offer! The event will include a combination of food, music, information, history and shared experiences.
