From Roots to Routes: A Kathak & Bharatanatyam Performance
Join dancers Shivani Jatar (Kathak) and Dhivya Srilakshmi (Bharatanatyam) as they explore their classical dance traditions, uncovering new avenues for expression and collaboration. In this unique performance, the artists share rarely seen pieces from their rich heritages—specially curated for audiences in the UK.
Shivani presents work from both the Benaras and Lucknow gharanas of Kathak, highlighting their distinct styles and interwoven histories. Her pieces reflect a personal dance journey from India to the UK, driven by a passion to make Indian classical dance more accessible.
Dhivya brings the elegance and depth of Bharatanatyam to the stage with traditional items like Alarippu, Padam, and Bhajans, offering a vibrant mix of pure movement, storytelling, and lyrical expression. She shares the essence of Nrittam (pure dance), Nrityam (expressive dance), and Natyam (dramatic storytelling) in an engaging, approachable format.
Tailored for audiences new to Indian classical dance, the event includes translations and context to help everyone connect with the performance. With family-friendly themes, it’s suitable for all ages.
Menaka Manch is a platform that celebrates the richness and diversity of South Asian classical dance.
