In Celebration of Diwali at Kedleston Hall Derbyshire .

At Kedleston Hall in Derby DE22 5JH we have opened the Hall to the public for our Diwali programming . Kedleston Hall has an inextricable link with India as Lord Curzon was the Viceroy of India from 1899 till 1905. He hosted the Delhi Durbar in 1903 and also collected about 1200 beautiful objects from across India, Afghanistan, Tibet , China , Japan to name a few countries. We , at the National Trust are celebrating this shared history by celebrating Diwali , Bandi Chhor Diwas – the season of light in Kedleston Hall . We have incorporated the key elements of traditional Diwali decorations! ” Rangoli” to welcome our lovely visitors; Rangoli, which has been made by crafting 100’s of marigold garlands made of wool – crafted by our lovely volunteers, the amazing ladies group from the Ramgarhia gurudwara, WI , Rock Choir and our staff members and friends ..❤️ I have also worked with a grass root level charity in Kolkatta / West Bengal who have crafted 3000 sola pith flowers for us … Sola pith is a weed that grows in the marshy areas of West Bengal . It is biodegradable and eco friendly and this craft is kept alive by the talented craftsmen and women in Bengal. It is traditionally used during Kaali Pooja in Bengal ! Big thank you to the incredible Kirat Garcha in Kolkatta who helped me source them and has worked so hard to make my vision come to life 🌺 Diwas / Diyas …they signify light – Illumination … We have had these lovely terracota light holders made by a local artist Sheena Holland , our lovely volunteers and staff and have been lovingly painted by local school children .. Never has Kedleston Hall been this adorned 🙂 …The beautiful light projections of rangoli , light , marigolds and the peacock have been installed by the amazing Derby Quad ! We are open everyday till the 19th of November from 11 am till 3 pm .Do visit us .Let us share the light .
