The South Asian Comedy Writing Workshop was a transformative success, empowering aspiring comedians to find their comedic voice and make people laugh. Through an exploration of humour, participants discovered what truly tickles the funny bone. The workshop highlighted the importance of delivery, utilising visuals, physicality, and tone to maximise comedic impact. Participants embraced their unique comedic styles and experimented with different approaches. With a focus on relatable content and funny storytelling, they learned to create laughter that connects with audiences on a personal level.
The South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) workshop 2023, ‘The Stories We Tell – What is Your Narrative?’ was an immersive and enlightening experience. This unique poetry workshop invited participants to delve deep into the rich tapestry of South Asian traditions and create a meaningful narrative that resonated with their personal experiences.
The creative writing workshop, ‘South Asian Stories from the Self,’ was an interactive event that took participants on a unique journey, weaving together the richness of South Asian heritage and the power of personal narrative. This workshop empowered attendees to share their authentic voices and be heard, fostering a deeper connection to their cultural roots and personal experiences.
The one-hour workshop led by photographer, stylist, set designer, and art director Mathushaa, titled “Not Just Brown, Not Just Indian,” was a resounding success. Participants were taken on a remarkable journey through the project’s evolution, from its inception to its grand display on billboards and a solo exhibition. The workshop provided an in-depth exploration of the creative process, funding strategies, and the impact of social media in the world of modern art, offering valuable insights into bringing artistic visions to life and unleashing creativity.
The engaging workshop led by Priyanka Jain, Founder of Love Your Company, at SAHM 2023 was a vibrant success. Participants explored the power of storytelling through bespoke prompt cards specifically tailored to South Asian culture and heritage. Through open and honest discussions, attendees shared their interpretations of the prompts, learned from their peers, and connected with the diverse narratives of the South Asian community. This workshop was a true celebration of culture, encouraging meaningful conversations and connections, and allowing participants to explore the richness of shared heritage while embracing the art of storytelling.
The hour-long online workshop with award-winning picture book illustrator and graphic novelist Debasmita Dasgupta was a fantastic opportunity for aspiring visual storytellers and budding author-illustrators. Participants were guided through the process of creating compelling visual stories, gaining valuable insights from Debasmita’s expertise and experience in the field. This tailored workshop provided practical tips and techniques, helping attendees to enhance their storytelling skills and take significant steps toward becoming published author-illustrators.
The live workshop on podcasting, held on Zoom, was an engaging and immersive experience. Over the course of one hour, participants were taken on a transformative journey, equipping themselves with the essential knowledge and tools to bring their podcasting dreams to life. The session provided valuable insights into the captivating realm of podcasting, leaving attendees inspired and ready to create their own podcasts.

The first of the Trust’s projects is the South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM), which first took place in 2020 and runs from the 18th of July to the 17th of August each year.
SAHM seeks to commemorate, mark and celebrate South Asian cultures, histories, and communities.
It seeks to understand the diverse heritage and cultures that continue to link the UK with South Asia.
