Our Partners
Telford and Wrekin Council
Telford and Wrekin Council have put together some excellent resources for primary and secondary school as a starting point to support the workshops and other teaching that they coordinate. Here are some of the resources that they have provided:
2022 Educational Resources and Packs for Primary and Secondary School
Partition Education Group
The Partition Education Group believe that pupils should have an opportunity to discuss and explore multiple interpretations of history, and discover some of the hidden histories that exist outside the scope of the current curriculum. They aim to bring together common groups that are producing resources and training to support the inclusion of Partition, South Asian history, and the decolonisation of the school curricula in current educational settings.
Their website has a number of useful sections including:
Resources – a collection of learning resources for teachers
Reading list – a collection of fiction, non-fiction and plays which tell the story of Partition.
Our Migration Story
Our Migration Story is a website out together to present the often untold stories of the generations of migrants who came to and shaped the British Isles. While it is primarily designed to support teachers and students studying migration to Britain. It aims to be a useful resource for anyone interested in Britain’s migration history.
Nutkhut: Never Set Eyes on the Land Learning Toolkit
The title, takes its name from a line in W.H. Auden’s caustic poem, Partition, written 20 years after the boundary lines of the Sub-Continent were drawn up by a British civil servant.
The learning toolkit which accompanies this project is the final phase and legacy of the overall mission behind the project. This toolkit is easy to download, easy to use and has been designed for KeyStages 3 and 4, but we expect it to be used by families, communities, to be shared with neighbour’s and friends. This aspect is the foundation of the project – it allows the story to be told a wider audience.
The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion, in partnership with National Literary Trust, have launched free educational resources for children aged 5-18 (Key Stage 1-5) to discover the importance of Remembrance and its relevance today.
Resources explore the theme of ‘service’, from highlighting the role of the emergency services who carry out lifesaving work, to the members of the Armed Forces who defend our nation, and the volunteers who help during times of national crisis.
Featuring personal testimonies from men and women from Britain, the Commonwealth and Nepal, children will explore stories of service and sacrifice in protecting all communities across Britain.
BBC Teach
The BBC has compiled a collection of resources for teaching different aspects of South Asia history for different key stages across primary and secondary school. Each resource has associated teaching notes to help you incorporate into your lessons.
Project Dastaan
Project Dastaan have built an interactive map of India and Pakistan with a built in state-by-state breakdown of the regional impacts of Partition, a road to Partition timeline, and over 30 first-hand witness recounts. The map has kindly been funded by the British Council and is available in four different languages: English, Bangla, Hindi and Urdu.
