South Asian Women’s Identity and Family History Poetry Based Research Workshop

Call for research participants :

This a call for research participants to take part in a study on how our South Asian family histories inform our identities.

This workshop will involve the exploration and reading of curated South Asian women’s poetry as well as the facilitation of poetry writing exercises and discussions.

The first session will look at the poetry of Nasreen Anjum Bhatti.

The second session will look at the poetry of Amrita Pritam.

The third session will look at the poetry of Kishwar Naheed.

The forth session will look at the poetry of Kamala Das.

Each session will involve:

-reading and discussing poetry by the above poets

-writing activities involving poetic techniques and sharing

– prompted poetry writing, sharing and discussion

-complimentary refreshments

-option to contribute to a collaborative zine.

Expect a relaxed, friendly and interactive workshop which focuses on using poetry as method of self expression and story telling.

Workshops are suitable for all self identifying South Asian women ages 18 and above. Refreshments and materials will be provided.

These workshops are being held in conjunction with PhD research on South Asian women’s identities at the University of Sussex.
