LONDON BENGALI FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS THE GOLDEN WINGS OF WATERCOCKS

Throughout July and August, we’re excited to present an array of screenings and special events around South Asian Heritage Month 2023, which is themed ‘Stories to Tell.’ The films chosen include suggestions by our members and local residents, alongside partnership events with curator Anupma Shanker, SUPAKINO, and London Bengali Film Festival. The screenings will explore a range of themes, from identity and community to gender, faith, and family, with a special focus on music, dance and drama

Moringa Entertainment in association with London Bengali Film Festival presents a special preview screening of Muhammad Quayum’s poignant debut feature. The screening will be introduced by Festival Director Subidita Bhattacharya.

The film is based on the lives, livelihoods and battle for survival of the marginalized peasants and landless farmers living in the haor (a wetland ecosystem in the north-eastern part of Bangladesh). Historically trapped in poverty formed by the confluence of social exploitation and climate injustice, the rice farmers survive the most devastating calamities in the backdrop of Bangladesh’s rich folk tradition and cultural heritage. 64-year-old Quayum’s directorial debut shared the Best Film Award at the Kolkata International Film Festival (India).
