CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP
Join us at the Octagon Theatre this July to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month with a creative writing workshop.
This year the theme for South Asian Heritage Month is ‘stories to tell’ therefore we are thrilled that local playwright Shahid Iqbal Khan will be joining us for this special one off workshop.
Whether you are completely new to creative writing or not this will be a fun and interactive workshop, introducing writing characters for the stage.
The workshop lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and will cost £7 or £5 for commissions.
Shahid Iqbal Khan is an Offies-finalist and Olivier Award-nominated playwright published by Methuen Drama. His full-length stage plays are Stardust (Belgrade Theatre) and 10 Nights (Bush Theatre). On radio, he made his Afternoon Drama debut with Love Across The Ages (BBC Radio 4). Other works in his audio portfolio include shorts Bhavika, Night of the Living Flatpacks (both on community channels) and Brandlesholme (Sheltering) (BBC Radio 4).
This year, Shahid Iqbal Khan is on a fellowship with Factory International, looking at multiple art forms and developing skills like curating and producing. He has been commissioned by Appetite and New Vic Theatre to work on their project Punjab To The Potteries. In 2022, Shahid Iqbal Khan undertook an attachment residency with Graeae Theatre and Royal Court Theatre. This residency also involved a co-commission for a play, which he is currently developing.
