Art & Poetry Workshop: “Roots”
Be inspired by Manchester Museum’s new South Asian Gallery. Create poetry and art facilitated by South Asian creatives.
“Roots” is a project in collaboration with Friends of the Earth that aims to to explore the interconnectedness of South Asian identity and ecology.
“Roots” Recycling Material. This workshop will look at the role of recycling in all its different forms, and its significance for both ancient and modern threads of South Asian heritage: from the physical repurposing of textiles to metaphorically recycling language itself. Drawing on pieces from Manchester Museum’s ‘South Asia Gallery,’ this workshop will include immersive discussions led by poet, Anisha Minocha and artist, Deshna Shah, it offers a chance to produce material through the layering of creative practices. Through this, attendees will be encouraged to rethink and appreciate their relationship to the surrounding environment and community.
We encourage participants to bring recycled textiles (e.g: saris, old clothes).
