My name is Shaz Khan (Shahzadgai Khan). My story is very simple but my parents’ is not. I stumbled across an article that I wrote when I was 17 years old for my English A-level coursework. It was all about “Being an Asian in Modern British Society”, which is where the inspiration for this podcast stems from. I decided to take advantage of the COVID lockdown, create this podcast as a platform to initiate conversations from a personal angle around South Asian Heritage. I am fortunate enough to have such interesting and resilient people in my life who have provided their lens on different parts of South Asian history. My father is from a Pathaan heritage, and moved from Pakistan to Sheffield, England in 1953 at the age of ten years old. He faced every existent form of discrimination, extreme poverty and a major culture shock.  My mother came from an island in Bangladesh called Hatiya. She was forced to flee her island during the major Bholna Cyclone in 1970, and found herself immersed into the uprising Bangladeshi Liberation War occurring in mainland Dhaka in 1971.

I have provided a link below to a few of the episodes that I believe are a great reflection on some scattered parts of South Asian history. I truly enjoyed participating in these conversations and I hope you take something from them too.

If you are interested in being on my podcast or in getting in touch, please contact me on instagram via @bambswithshaz or @shaz.khan.

Best wishes,

Shaz

My journey:  From light into darkness!

‘I am the unlucky one’ I said to the Consultant. I was sobbing away on my own with nobody to hold my hand or support me. Where did I go wrong? What had I done? I always helped everyone – young old, needy and desperate. So why did it have to be ME? I didn’t understand.
