Introduction to the South Asian Heritage Month School Toolkit 2024!

Welcome to the South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) School Toolkit 2024, a comprehensive resource designed to celebrate, commemorate, and educate about the rich heritage and contributions of South Asians in the UK. This toolkit has been meticulously crafted to support schools in creating engaging and informative experiences for students, aligning with the theme for 2024: “Free to Be Me.”

Overview

South Asian Heritage Month, observed annually from 18th July to 17th August, is a time to recognise the diverse and vibrant cultures of South Asia, which includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This toolkit aims to provide educators with a variety of resources, activities, and lesson plans that highlight the historical and contemporary significance of South Asian communities.

Features of the Toolkit

  • Interactive Activities: Engaging quizzes, group discussions, and creative projects that help students explore South Asian heritage.
  • Historical Context: Detailed information on the historical events and figures that have shaped South Asian societies and their interactions with the UK.

How to Access the Toolkit

The toolkit is provided in both a PowerPoint presentation (81 slides) and a pdf. Please note these are large files.

To access the full South Asian Heritage Month School Toolkit, you will need to sign into google and provide your email address, please include your name and institute when requesting a share. 

Access to the shared folder will then be granted and you can right-click and download the appropriate resource.
