SUMMARY:Thamarai: Pritt + Prito
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nBreak new ground with two artists currently striking gold: Eelam Tamil-rooted and London-raised vocalist Pritt and British Tamil DJ and producer Prito.\n\nPritt’s expressive, honest music connects her Eelam Tamil heritage and European upbringing, blending Carnatic melisma with modern melodies to offer a soulful, unorthodox treatment of an ‘East meets West’ performance.\nThe first Tamil woman to feature in the BBC Asian Network’s Future Sounds list in 2021, Pritt is a force to be reckoned with. Her first Tamil cover ‘Unakkul Naane’, has been streamed over 100 million times, while her own releases have seen her tour extensively and support both Sid Sriram and Ustad Noor Bakhsh. Pritt is also a champion for Tamil and South Indian artists, showcasing their music on her BBC Asian Network radio show.\nPrito is a London-based British Tamil producer and DJ, shaping Tamil underground and global sound culture through his experimental remixes, productions and sample flips. His work has led to the emergence of the ‘Tamil diaspora underground’ movement, evolving from grassroots communities in London to connecting with the global diaspora through international performances.\nPrito’s sound blends golden-era Tamil classics with contemporary UK sounds including house, UK garage, amapiano, Afrobeat and commercial hits. His sets transform familiar cultural sounds into high-energy experiences, using music to bridge generations across the global Tamil diaspora while redefining what identity means to him.\nPresented in collaboration with Thamarai.\nThamarai is a London-based cultural platform built around the British Tamil and wider South Indian and Sri Lankan communities. Through events, editorial and community-led experiences, Thamarai champions emerging talent while celebrating identity, heritage and creativity in all its forms.\n\n\n\nBringing together contemporary artists and traditional ensembles, this show is a fitting celebration of an ‘effervescent’ (Songlines) album.\n\n\n\n
