SUMMARY:The Brown Ranger
DESCRIPTION:– Supported by Arts Council England –\nThe Brown Ranger:\nWhen 7-year-old Thomas experiences his first racially charged encounter on the park swings one day, it sparks a sudden awakening — igniting a lifelong struggle to embrace his identity. \nInspired by his hero, the Brown Ranger, Thomas begins to feel empowered in a world where he feels unseen and unrepresented in pop culture. However, as Thomas matures, the enchanting magic of his defender begins to fade, overshadowed by the harsh realities of the world around him. \nA brand-new solo show, created with a captivating blend of movement, visuals and an original score, The Brown Ranger is an emotional journey of self-discovery that oozes nostalgia, exploring the intricate relationship between art, belonging, and personal identity. It interrogates the impact of representation on screen and its profound influence on societal perceptions, ultimately questioning what it means to find one’s place in a world that often fails to acknowledge you.\nWhen: \n\nMonday 4th August – 8pm\nThursday 7th August – 8pm\nSaturday 9th August – 2pm\n\nJoin us after the performance on Monday 4 August for a free Q&A with the company.\nWriter of The Brown Ranger, Ben Grant, is also running a free workshop on Saturday 9 August at 11am, click for more info and to book your place.\nLength: \nApprox 70 minutes\nThemes:\nIdentity, Belonging, Coming of Age, Masculinity.\nContent Guidance:\nRacism, violence, strong language, references to traumatic historical events.\nThis production contains loud sound effects, flashing lights/strobe effects, projection and haze.\nTickets:\nGeneral Admission – £10\nCFT’s Prologue scheme (16-30) – £5\n(Lead image and poster design by Othman Izagaren)\n \n
